ESTES FAMILY | MORNINGTON PENINSULA

It's been an awesome week.

At church, with the youth, we held a talent night where everyone had to share one of their talents - for just a few minutes. I shared my knowledge on how to expose an image. How to use ISO, aperture and shutter speed to create a picture.

Jeremy (Cohen's Dad) was there too. After I presented, I was speaking to him about talent. I told him that I believe my true talent lies not in being a photographer, or creating mind blowing photos. I believe the talent I have been blessed with is to be able to see the beauty in people's lives in the moments it exists. Thankfully, I kinda understand light and how to create an exposure as well. With that knowledge, I get to share with people what I see.

I think that's the main reason that I have been able to work with so many people while I'm still so young in my career.

Kristi emailed me at 1am this morning, after seeing her slideshow of images. An email for which I am grateful. As you probably saw from the preview I posted, it rained. Not just a little bit though. I've shot in a little bit of rain on more than one occasion and it's not too much of an issue. I mean it rained like the world was going to end.

The rain didn't bother me though.

It didn't bother me because I saw, immediately, that Kristi and her family loved each other. And you can still be in love with each other in the rain...

Kristi humbled me with her words when she said:

Tim, with tears flowing down my cheek, I am in awe of "us" because of you. I am not sure if there is any better emotion.

I am in awe of Kristi and her amazing family. And I'm forever humbled by the people who invite me into their lives to document them.

This last image is super special. Within minutes of knowing me, Quinn, aged six, told me he had something for me. He went out to the car and returned with a picture he'd drawn of me photographing his family at the beach.

  7. I agree -- with any amount of training, anyone can be a decent, quick snapshot taker. But it's something else when you can see beauty in this world and celebrate it it. Tim, your true talent definitely lies there. This is such a beautiful session filled with images of people who love. Love all of your photos!

  8. Hey Tim,

    I love these shots!

AND I loved reading that you've identified your skill as being able to see beauty in the moment (& of course click in that moment). I would take it one step further though. I think that your ability is in not only seeing the love in the moments but in returning it. For however long you are with each of these families I believe that you love them...with all your heart & I feel they believe it too.

  15. Wow you did all that in the pouring rain! I have two clear favourites, the black and white of the scenery and the little boy walking up in the corner of the picture and the one with the crab as I love how the focus is on the crab but you still get the little boy's expression! Great photos as always.
