JESS AND SCOTT | HUNTER VALLEY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

I was a month into running my own business when Jess emailed me. Her email was my first legitimate wedding enquiry - and it was 18 months in advance.

It's hard to explain what it felt like to have something like that drop in my inbox. After quitting my day job, selling our home and serving food for the better part of a year - my insides burned with excitement.

Anyone who has ever taken a risk that's paid off will know the feeling. I almost wish I could go back to those first few months, after setting up the business. Just remembering those initial emails coming through makes my heart beat faster.

In the time between Jess's email and her wedding, I shot a lot of weddings. Jess knew what she wanted and that's something I loved about getting to know her. She saw in my work from the very beginning, the images she wanted hanging on her walls for the rest of her life. And that's a humbling thought for me.

Last weekend, I drove to the Hunter Valley with Kesh and Roo. I left my family at the hotel and joined Jess and Scott's. I felt the togetherness, love and strength within their own families. It's a very beautiful thing.

  1. you know, even though I don't have a partner or any real desire to get married in the near future... I do know that you'd be my first choice of photographer whenever that time does eventuate. Just so stunning.

  5. Gorgeous Tim... my favourite photo here is of the older couple having a little snuggle at the table, shot between the others at the table. So much joy captured in that moment... just beautiful.

I also particularly love the one of the 2 golfers' feet side by side with the separator thing in the middle, and the one of the little boy licking the icing off the cake (:

I have tears. You know, this reminded me SO much of our wedding. Those shots of that beautiful little blonde haired boy, dashing through the chairs...eeep.

We're in those early days of getting-an-email-ooh-how-exciting-moments that you mentioned at the start of your post here. Your words resonated quite strongly. I'll keep checking your site. All the best for the future :)

  25. They are, at heart, emotional affairs. And, the tradition of having that first look at the bride happen as she walks down the aisle can make this question a bit more complicated.
