ANNIKA AND ROB

Goobarragandra. Ever heard of it? Me, either...

That's one of the best things about being a human on this planet. There's always somewhere you haven't been, somewhere else to venture.

It's close to Tumut - you just follow the river for about half an hour, caressing mountainsides as you go. By that time, your car's covered in dirt and you've realised that out here, people wave as they pass you. Once you've crossed the cattle grid, you're pretty much there - but not quite.

Annika explained to me that even though the wedding would be held at Elm Grove, they really wanted photos at a place that means a whole lot to her and Rob. Pretty Sally is, honestly, paradise. It's there Rob and his family have created lifelong traditions. A piece of land they purchased with other local families so they could spend time, anytime.

In the back seat of a dual cab Hilux, we rolled over bridges, through gates, along ridges, past waterfalls and cows with 'furry fringes'.

Annika and Rob took me to more places than Pretty Sally that day. They took me down one of the most sacred paths anyone walks in their lifetime - the path that leads to binding yourself to another.

During Annika's speech, she thanked me for my time and explained that I was the only person involved on the day, who she didn't already know. And while it made me feel the great trust in the relationship we now share, it really just made me feel happy that I got to be there.

*On a day when the mercury reached the mid forties (that's one hundred and thirteen degrees for those in America), we decided it would be best to shoot portraits in the early morning to avoid the afternoon heat. I liked this schedule a lot.

  3. breathtakingly beautiful. there is so much soul to these photos. of everything you've ever posted, I feel like these are the most wild and free and full of life -- heartbreakingly honest and quietly reflective of the moments and people that matter so much. and the black and whites made my heart ache.

  11. This has to be one of my fave weddings you have shot. The heat, dust and refreshing water look amazing. Love the Akubras too! I grew up in rural Australia and understand so well how places can make such a special place in your heart. For me it was the waterfall on my grandparents' property - they sadly sold the property about 10 years ago and I miss my summers camping by the river and swimming in its pools.

  19. Tim - By looking at these photos I actually felt I was there. Standing with Annika and Rob as they celebrated. I could feel the heat. The love. The landscape. I don't really like to play favourites, but this one certainly takes the cake... What did you shoot with? There is something so uniquely different here x

  29. I love #1 on this list. I am totally a victim of this. When I started creating goals around my blog I noticed the quality of my content drop month after month. It wasn’t because I stopped caring what I was publishing… it was simply that my focus was geared towards specific numbers and metrics rather than what you describe as “actions.”
Because of this #3 and #5 started failing big-time as well and thus a spiral effect began. Thank you very much for this insight. The big thing I’m taking away from this is… to start focusing more on “actions” again!
