THE NURSERY | A REVIEW

I never thought I would be a teacher. My Mum always told me I didn't have the patience required to educate others. Probably because I only ever tried teaching when it was forced upon me. Most times, it was me, the piano and someone who wanted to learn Smoke on the Water - I was classically trained.

At those times, I lacked patience and the student (normally a friend or family member) continued their disassociation with the ivories.

Things have changed though. They've changed because I have found something I'm passionate about sharing with the world.

I've developed a workshop called the nursery. I teach people how to use their DSLR as it was intended. I teach people the importance of creating an emotional connection in order to capture real emotion in their frames. The best part is, I teach people who have never shot on anything other than the automatic setting.

Last week, a new group of ten beautiful people came into my home. They met my wife and my son. They sat in our chairs and humbly, I taught them what I've come to learn on my photographical journey.

My amazing friend, Annette Wilson, made a short film. She captured, perfectly, the essence of the day.

Another beautiful friend, Jodi, modeled for our live shoot and the images below were taken while I talked the attendees through my process for shooting portraits. Jodi also wrote a review of what it's like to attend the nursery. You should definitely click through - she has a very special way with words.

the nursery is set to visit every capital city over the next twelve months. If you'd like to come along, email me at hello@timcoulson.com

In the coming days, I'll be creating a new section on the website with upcoming dates and locations so you can see when I'll be in your city.

*I still have 2 spaces for Sep 15 and Sep 17 at the nursery in Melbourne.
